Facial Treatment

Maybe you think of a dentist with such a white lounger, or maybe you’ve just never been to a beautician! Are you curious about what happens during a facial treatment? From scrub to face mask, we tell you how to get a well-groomed and radiant face step by step!

What is a facial treatment at a beautician?

A facial is a relaxing beauty treatment that ensures a wonderfully clean face. The beautician cleans, cares for and improves your skin. Some beauticians also call a facial a facial. An extensive facial treatment often consists of the following phases:

  • Skin analysis
  • Facial cleansing
  • Extra beauty treatment, such as plucking eyebrows
  • Facial scrub or exfoliate
  • Steaming face
  • Remove blackheads and barley grains
  • Connective tissue massage of your face, neck and décolleté
  • Facial mask
  • Skincare
  • Skin analysis
  • Every skin has different needs. To determine which facial treatment suits you, the beautician asks you:

Your problem areas, such as your forehead, nose, or cheeks:

  • Physical complaints
  • Medication use

Skin conditions such as rosacea, couperose, eczema or acne:

  • Your work and lifestyle
  • Expectations and wishes

Based on your skin analysis, the beautician advises the right products and facial treatment.

Facial cleansing

The first thing a beautician does is of course clean your skin! During a facial wash , all make-up remnants and dust from the day are removed from your face with a cotton pad and cleanser. Extra nice: after cleaning you get a warm towel draped over your face! This wipes the last few cleansers off your face and makes you relax.

Plucking eyebrows

Now that your face is completely fresh and clean, the beautician can perform an additional treatment, such as plucking your eyebrows and dyeing your eyelashes. Do you suffer from stubborn hairs on your chin or upper lip? These can also be removed at your request!

Facial scrub or exfoliate?

Then it is time for a good depth cleaning! During this phase of your beauty treatment you will get a facial scrub or your skin will be exfoliated. Now of course you wonder: what is the difference between the two? A facial scrub contains coarse granules that scour or exfoliate dead skin cells from your skin. An exfoliant contains refined grains and a chemical, such as fruit acid or salicylic acid. These are naturally exfoliating ingredients, which are ingredients that remove the top layer of dead skin cells and cleanse deep into the pores. The result: young and new skin cells and a fresh and even glow!

Steaming face

When your skin is fresh and clean, it’s time to steam your face! The beautician puts a steam device on your face for ten to twenty minutes that blows a fine mist of steam onto your skin. The hot steam opens your pores and softens your skin, making it easier to remove blackheads and barley kernels, or milia. Often times, your practitioner will add herbs or essential oils that will relax your skin and give you that ultimate sense of wellness!

Remove blackheads and barley grains

Now comes a less pleasant part of your beauty treatment. When your skin is pre-softened and your pores are open, the beautician can remove blackheads and tackle any barley grains. Using a comedone spoon  or simply with two tissues, your practitioner will empty your clogged pores. For the removal of barley grains or other impurities that are more difficult to express, the beautician can also use a small, sterile needle. Less fine, but after that your skin is nice and pure and healthy!

Connective tissue massage face, neck

Depending on the treatment you have chosen, the beautician can also give a connective tissue massage to your face, neck and décolleté. The special, deep massage techniques of a connective tissue massage stimulate the blood circulation of your skin, improve your skin structure and ensure that care products are better absorbed. For such a facial massage, the beautician can use a nourishing skin serum , or a soothing skin oil of, for example, chamomile, avocado or lavender. A connective tissue massage is also closed with a warm cloth on your face. Hmmm, heavenly!

Facial mask

Take a good lie, because it is not done with the relaxation yet! It’s time for a wonderful face mask. A face mask contains active substances that are tailored to the needs of your skin type. For example, it can consist of a cream, but also of clay, algae or even mud! It often works deeply cleansing, moisturizing and caring. Such a face mask gives your skin a big boost!

Apply skin care

The last part of your facial treatment is of course the skin care. When the beautician has removed all leftovers of the mask from your face, you are ready for the final care. Depending on the treatment you have chosen, you will first receive a serum that suits your skin type. After that, a skincare is applied, such as a day cream or a night cream .
